The Wine Research Centre at UBC has operated as a collaboration between the Faculty of Management, Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Land and Food Systems since 2020. Following careful consideration, the Centre has moved to the Office of the Vice-Principal Research and Innovation (VPRI) at UBC Okanagan where it will undergo a strategic review and reorganization.

As part of the comprehensive review process, we will consult stakeholders—including students, faculty and those working in the wine industry—to learn their views on priorities for the sector, the future of the centre and wine research at the university.

The Office of the VPRI is committed to research that investigates and supports all aspects of agriculture and the wine industry, both of which are at the heart of the Okanagan’s economy and history. This strategic review of the Wine Research Centre will afford it greater latitude to explore opportunities with the broader agricultural sector, which is closely intertwined with wine production.

We look forward to continuing to partner with experts as well as local, regional and international wine communities as we reimagine how UBC’s Wine Research Centre can best serve their needs while continuing to fulfill our academic mission.

Sincerely,

Phil Barker
